Mr. Desai was publicly facilitated by the then Chief Minister and presently The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi on the eve of Gujarat day in 2013.
He was the Hon. Secretary of Vanche Gujarat (Read Gujarat) campaign which was a unique and innovative campaign initiated by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat Hon’ble Shri Narendra Modi with a humble intention to inculcate reading habits and imbibe reading culture in the people and particularly amongst the children. It was the brain child of Mr. Desai. Shri Narendra Modi was the Chairman of this state level committee.
Mr. Desai has honored his services as the President / Secretary of 120 years old Shree Sayaji Vaibhav Public Library, Navsari from 1980-2017. He has pioneered and promoted reading movement in Navsari and across Gujarat due to which Navsari is known as “Reading Capital of Gujarat” and Granth Tirth. The library has repeatedly won the Best library award from Govt. of Gujarat (six times to be precise). Here, he has led a comprehensive, re-imagination, re-invention and modernization of this 120-year-old public library with a focus on the reading movement for children.
He is also on the Governing Body of management of Auro University, the only University aiming Integral Education based at Surat.
Mr. Mahadev Desai is a pioneer and a key person for “Jyotirdhar Abhiyan” - A campaign undertaken for Empowering Teachers for their self-awakening, self-leadership and character building. He is also Chairman of Gyan Bharati.
Mr. Mahadev Desai was also consulted by the Government of Bhutan as an expert to guide the Bhutan Govt. for celebration of Bhutan National Reading Year 2015 on the recommendation of The Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
Mr. Desai holds position of pre-eminence on various professional bodies and council and has membership for several renowned professional societies. In recognition of his professional services, the Govt. of Gujarat appointed him as the Founding Vice President of “Gujarat Council of Professional Civil Engineers”, the first such council in India.
He has served as the member of Education Committee, Gujarat – SSC Board. He is also on the board of trustees at GIDC Engineering College, Navsari.
He is the Member of Institution of Engineers (India), Indian Concrete Institute; International Association for Bridge & Structural Engineering, Indian Road Congress, Indian Geo Technical Society, Consulting Engineers Association of India, and Indian Water works Association, International Council of Consultants. He was also member of American Concrete Institute and American Society of Civil Engineers. He is a Fellow of Institute of Valuers.
He is on the panel of arbitrators for FICCI and Indian Council of Arbitrators. He has also been Govt. Registered Valuer and has valued more than 2500 properties.
Mr. Mahadev Desai was also invited as an expert by Hyderabad Urban Development Authority to participate in “Expert Consultants Workshop” for finalizing environmental building guidance and regulations for HUDA.
